As of midday today the New York Department of Health lists 524 positive cases of COVID-19 in New York State, 311 of them outside New York City. That includes one or two cases each in Broome, Monroe, and Tompkins Counties. None yet in Onondaga. The state had its first two fatalities today.
All campuses of the State University of New York, including Onondaga Community College, as well as Syracuse University will convert all classes to distance and online learning after this week’s spring break.
The Binghamton Morris Men’s Gilbertsville tour, at least in the form it’s been, will be postponed or canceled. It had been scheduled for April 24–26. (The Binghamton Men and the B. F. Harridans might do a day of dance there.)
Salt City Ukulele met last Thursday. No official decision has been made about future activities yet.
SyraUke was apparently going to meet today at Wunderbar but Wunderbar is closed.
So far as I am aware a Syracuse Rocket Club led rocket building session at Walt’s HobbyTown is still on for tomorrow. I will not be participating.
The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain’s US tour has been canceled.
I’m retired, so there’s pretty much nowhere I need to be, and aside from meetings of the aforementioned groups I don’t socialize much. So social distancing is not a major challenge. Aside from not doing tomorrow’s rocket activity I’ve made no firm decisions, but expect to mostly stay away from other people for the time being.
Most of Kenny’s social life is online anyway, so his exposure’s low.
Kenny and I haven’t participated in panic buying. We have food enough to get through a couple weeks. We, for anatomical reasons, use relatively little toilet paper so the eight or so rolls we have will last us a good long time.
I’ve been trying not to touch my face. I’m doing it less. Also trying not to directly touch things like door handles in public.
I did go to a fairly large event at Cornell University last weekend; I considered staying away but decided if I kept mostly to myself the risk would be negligible, and it was something I really wanted to do. I’m not sure that was a good decision, and I am pretty sure I wouldn’t do it if it were this weekend.
We went out to dinner last night, but I’m not sure we’ll do that again for a while.
