What’s it mean when your camera starts making these diagonal black shadows? I thought it was low batteries but I put in new batteries and it’s still doing it. Does it mean my cutting edge 3.2 megapixel camera is on its way out?

Doctroidal dissertations 
I found the problem. The lens cover wasn’t opening fully. But I could push it the rest of the way open with a finger, and then after a while it started opening all the way on its own again.
