The only ones missing are ’sunny’ and ‘oobleck’

On the Weather Service forecast page for our area there’s a “Current Conditions” section that includes a terse description of the weather at present. For instance, right now it says “Partly Cloudy”. Or for another instance, at one point yesterday it said “Light Rain Snow Fog/Mist and Windy”.
Okay, so sometimes the weather’s not so terse.

A hair shorter

The older I get, the less well behaved my hair gets. I think what’s happening is the hair that’s managed not to fall out is jumping up and down, waving, and yelling “I’M STILL HERE! LOOK AT ME!! STILL HERE!!!” Either that or the ear hair is fomenting rebellion.
I could go for the Einstein look, [...]

Slings, arrows, cream pies, and molehills

1. My mom and sister live in Houston. My sister and her husband actually are visiting his family in England, so they missed all the fun.  (A couple years ago they were in England for Christmas, and it snowed in Houston. Maybe they should stay away from England.) Apparently a neighbor reports their house is [...]

Twister or not

Yesterday afternoon Heather called me to tell me to try to reach someone at Kenny’s school picnic (she had to get back to work): The Weather Service had posted a tornado warning for a storm coming through that area in about ten minutes. I don’t live there any more

And that’s okay.
Of course I’m not where I live, either; I’m in Newport News, where there has been, for the past roughly 24 hours, snow on the ground. Maybe half an inch.
Unpossible!
Well, no, it did snow during the three winters we lived here. About an inch. Total. For all three combined. So not unpossible, just [...]

Stegosaurus

I started knitting the stegosaurus (from the Prehistoric Pals pattern) last month, but put it on hold to finish the projects that need to be mailed. Which I have (finished) and they have been (mailed. I woke at 7:52 this morning, which is way late for me, and cursed because I wanted to be at [...]

Or maybe not

I signed up to bring bread to the band dinner. Sunday night I fed the sourdough starter. Monday it was not looking especially lively, though not dead either. Monday night I made up bread dough with the starter and some yeast…
And it didn’t rise.
Tuesday morning I stopped in at Columbus Bakery and bought two loaves [...]

Not with a fff

Monday evening Kenny kept saying Tuesday would be a snow day, and I kept telling him I didn’t think so. Tuesday I got up and found out it was a snow day. We got 8.4 inches, or rather, the airport, where Syracuse’s snowfall is measured, did. Then again, the airport got 5 inches Saturday and [...]
