Hereby resolve

For the dojo we’re supposed to come up with a list of ten goals for 2009 — not exclusively martial arts goals, but goals of any and all kinds. I view these as not quite the same as resolutions, or rather as a particular type of resolution. These are not things we’re going to try [...]

Resolution review (November 2008)

Gaah, it seems like I just did one of these. And this one’s going to be pretty much a rerun of the last.
No new clarinet activity this month.  No new knitting this month.  I did buy a skein of yarn, because it’s evident the little tiny project I started last, what, June? is going to [...]

Resolution review (Oct 2008)

Knitting: I suck.
[One problem is, I can't read and knit at the same time, and I'm engrossed in reading these days -- I've reread Brust's Khaavren Romances, and now I'm rereading what someone dubbed the Vladiad. Usually when I reread a series I go through it in internal chronological order, but this time for a [...]

Resolution Review (September 08)

I got to a concert this month, didn’t I?  I think so, one.  Would’ve been two if it weren’t for the pancreas thing.
I don’t know of any more concerts scheduled this year — in years past the band’s done a concert in December, but this year it was moved to August. Anyway, my plan is [...]

Resolution review (August 08)

As suggested last month, I’m not even trying to keep up on clarinet these days. In fact I missed one band practice and two concerts in July, only getting to this week’s concert in Tully. Next week we’re off, and the next two weeks are concerts I also expect to miss. Tuesdays are dicey this [...]

Resolution review (July 08)

Halfway through the year.
I’m beginning to think perhaps the problem I’m having with the clarinet resolution is that it’s basically impossible — given my present situation and priorities. There’s just too much going on and too much variation in schedules to fit practicing in a lot of the time. I may just have to admit [...]

Uh oh

The Yarn Harlot is channelling RandomCyn.
(Well, OK, she doesn’t use the f-word.)

Resolution review (June 08)

This is getting a little repetitious. Tough.
I’m doing better on the knitting thing: in May I did, I think, four rows of continental. Which is to say virtually nothing, but a lot more virtually nothing than in the preceding months.
I really need to figure out how to fit clarinet practice in. Concerts start next week. [...]

Resolution review (May 08)

April was largely a rerun of March.
1. Karate’s progressing well. I haven’t been jamming toes lately. I have been dealing with some Achilles tendonitis, but I think that’s under control. The colored-belt deficit has eased a little since the yellow belt moved up to orange and a couple of white belts graduated to yellow. They’re [...]

Resolution review (April 08)

1. I’m keeping this resolution. Keeping the hell out of it. After eight karate classes I think my body’s starting to get used to it. I said starting. I do seem to find a way to jam or otherwise whack one big toe per class (fortunately I alternate — and tonight I didn’t hurt either [...]
