The not so incredible shrinking man

On a whim I checked my height again this morning, and this time I came up with 5′ 7″. And again this evening, getting 5′ 6 1/2″.
I’ve heard one’s height varies over the course of the day… but today’s 5′ 7″ and Friday’s 5′ 6″ at the doctor’s office both were measured in late morning.

Shrinkage

I had a physical Friday, and the nurse said I’m 5′6″. WTF? I’m 5′7.5″. Or so I’ve always thought, and there’s a mark on the pantry door frame dating from 2003 to prove it.
But when I checked my height myself, I came up with 5′6″ too.
People typically lose height after age 40, about a centimeter [...]

Looking back on past Gilbertsville tours, I tend to remember rain and chilly weather, though I’m not sure how well my memory would be confirmed by actual records. Anyhow, I’m certain this past weekend was atypical: high temperature in the mid 80s (F) on Saturday, no rain for the weekend.

Kenny had last week off from school, but kind of a rough time. He’d come down with a virus in the middle of the week before; by last weekend he was pretty much over it, but was coughing a lot due presumably to postnasal drip, and sometimes he’d gag, and then… well. [...]

New heights

We went to Buffalo over the weekend to celebrate Heather’s grandmother’s 91st birthday.
Kenny is about the same height as his great grandmother. Shorter by less than an inch, if at all.
