I got to a concert this month, didn’t I? I think so, one. Would’ve been two if it weren’t for the pancreas thing.
I don’t know of any more concerts scheduled this year — in years past the band’s done a concert in December, but this year it was moved to August. Anyway, my plan is [...]

No Show Summer
It was the Summer of Love. In the tennis sense.
In early June, I didn’t go with the Binghamton Morris Men to the Sudz, because of family obligations that weekend.
A couple of weeks later we didn’t go to the Old Songs Festival as we usually do, because we weren’t particularly enthralled with this year’s performers and [...]

DFWTP II
Eleven days ago Heather’s father called, presumably to talk about taking Kenny to Sandy Pond the next day as had been tentatively arranged, but we were out. Heather called him the next morning, but he didn’t answer his phone and didn’t call back. I tried calling him a couple times with no success.
Over the next [...]

MIDI smash
I’ve been looking into why Melody Assistant and GarageBand seem to have trouble communicating on the subject of pitch bend.
Turns out, Melody Assistant puts a pitch bend range of +-24 semitones in the MIDI files it writes. GarageBand, on the other hand, apparently ignores this and assumes +-2 semitones. Thus all pitch bends are rendered [...]

Next stop, M-theory
On the way home tonight conversation got onto the subject of atoms and protons and neutrons and quarks, and Kenny asked if there were quarks inside an electron. No, I told him, like quarks, electrons seem to be elementary.
To which he responded, “Then maybe electrons and quarks are cousins of each other.”
My God! Nine years [...]

Blast
Kenny’s school does a model rocket launch every spring; each kid has his or her own rocket, and they have lots of fun with it. Kenny’s done it three times now.
For his birthday last month his grandmother gave him an Estes Snapshot kit. She’s given him model rockets before, some of which got completed before [...]

Resolution review (August 08)
As suggested last month, I’m not even trying to keep up on clarinet these days. In fact I missed one band practice and two concerts in July, only getting to this week’s concert in Tully. Next week we’re off, and the next two weeks are concerts I also expect to miss. Tuesdays are dicey this [...]
